OBJECTIVES
- to reduce the transmission of mother-to-child transmission of HIV through the provision of a package of available, affordable and effective interventions in mother-child health
- to improve the health status of women and children in the Coast Province of Kenya. Specific objectives are to reduce maternal and infant mortality and morbidity and to reduce the transmission of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in the Coast Province of Kenya
METHODS
- testing pregnant women for HIV
- providing nevirapine for the reduction of Mother-to-Child transmission of HIV
ACTIVITIES
- To provide nevirapine to HIV-positive mothers and their babies
- Strengthening of antenatal care services
- Strengthening of safe labour and delivery services
- Strengthening of postpartum care services
EXPECTED RESULTS
- A package of interventions to reduce HIV Mother-to-Child Transmission in place in two districts
- Quality of antenatal care improved in two districts
- Quality of intrapartum care improved in two districts
- Quality of postpartum care improved in two districts
