OBJECTIVES
Main objectives
- The development of a theoretical model of the determinants of sexual risk behavious
- Assessing the effectiveness of the use of the theoretical model in HIV prevention programmes among children and youth
Specific objectives
- Making an overview of determinants of sexual risk behaviour among youth in sub-Sahara Africa
- Developping an instrument to measure these determinants
- Integrating the determinants in the validated theoretical model
- Testing the theoretical model to a HIV education programme
METHODS
- Review of literature and meta-analysis of studies on sexual risk behaviour
- Qualitative research: in-depth interviews with young Rwandan people on HIV/AIDS, sexuality and sexual identity
- Quantitative research: study the impact of an HIV/AIDS risk reduction programme through a baseline study, an intermediary study and an endline study
- Develop an adapted intervention, based on the preliminary quantitative results and the outcome of the qualitative study
