OBJECTIVES
Main objective:
- To contribute to the abandonment of all forms of female genital mutilation in Somalia
Specific objectives:
- To contribute to a greater awareness in certain target groups in Somalia concerning the harmful effects of all forms of female genital mutilation
- Supporting civil society organizations in the founding of a network of Somalian non-governmental organizations working in the field of the eradication of female genital mutilation
METHODS
- Baseline study (focus group discussions, interviews, questionnaire)
- Capacity building of key persons in Somalia
- Establishment of Network of civil society organisations and non-governmental organisations working in the field of the prevention of FGM
- Endline study
ACTIVITIES
- Training of trainers (4-day workshop) in Merca and Garoe (5 persons per region)
- Organisations of platform meetings in Merca and Garoe (25 persons per region)
- Public meeting in Merca and Garoe (50-150 persons per region)
- Base- and endline studie to measure the attitudes of the target groups towards behaviour change concerning female genital mutilation
- Steering Committee meetings to monitor the project
EXPECTED RESULTS
- Network of civil society organisations working towards towards the prevention of FGM in Somalia
- 150 trained persons on the harmful effects of all forms of FGM
