Job vacancy for a PhD grantee (2 year BOF project) for statistical analysis and
epidemiological research in the area of sexual and reproductive health at the International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH), Ghent University. (Start: 1 September 2007)

Job description
You are responsible for the statistical analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal studies
from projects in Kenya in the area of sexual behaviour, prevalence and incidence of
sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. You provide support in the statistical data analysis for other ICRH projects. You contribute to the development and analysis of epidemiological models for estimation of the impact of HIV prevention interventions. Field
visits may be necessary. You are responsible for the reporting of the results of the
statistical analyses, and you contribute to the publication of papers in international

peer-reviewed journals.

Profile
Master in Medicine, Master in Biomedical Sciences or Master in Sciences.
Additional training in statistical data analysis and epidemiology is required.
Knowledge of SPSS and SAS is required.
Knowledge of S+/R and MatLab will be an asset.
Additional training in public health, HIV/AIDS or reproductive health, field work experience in developing countries will be an added advantage.

Good knowledge of English, knowledge of other languages will be an added advantage. Communicational and organizational skills.
Able to work both independently as well as in team.

VACATURE
Vacature voor doctoraatsbursaal (2 jarig BOF project) voor statistische data analyse en epidemiologisch onderzoek inzake seksuele en reproductieve gezondheid aan het
International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH), Universiteit Gent. (Start: 1 September)

Functiebeschrijving
U staat in voor de statistische analyse van cross-sectioneel en longitudinaal onderzoek uit projecten in Kenia inzake seksueel gedrag, prevalentie en incidentie van seksueel overdraagbare aandoeningen, inclusief HIV. U biedt ondersteuning bij statistische data
analyse uit andere ICRH projecten. U werkt mee aan het ontwikkelen en analyseren van epidemiologische modellen voor de schatting van de impact van HIV preventie
interventies. Terreinbezoeken kunnen nodig zijn. U staat in voor de rapportering van de resultaten van de statistische analyses, en werkt mee aan de publicatie van papers in internationale peer-reviewed tijdschriften.

Profiel
Master in geneeskunde, Master in Biomedische Wetenschappen of Master in
Wetenschappen.
Bijkomende opleiding in statistische data analyse en epidemiologie is noodzakelijk.
Kennis van SPSS en SAS is noodzakelijk.
Kennis van S+/R en MatLab is een pluspunt.
Bijkomende opleiding in volksgezondheid, HIV/AIDS of reproductieve gezondheid, terreinervaring in ontwikkelingslanden is een pluspunt.

Goede kennis van Engels, kennis van andere talen is een pluspunt
Communicatie- en organisatorische vaardigheden
In staat zowel onafhankelijk als in teamverband te werken.
