ICRH remains WHO Collaborating Centre
On June 5th, the World Health Organization has decided to renew ICRH's status as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research on Sexual and Reproductive Health for four years.
The specific areas of expertise that WHO values in ICRH are:
- Operational research on prevention of HIV/AIDS in women and children
- Prevention and management of cervical cancer
- Prevention of female genital mutilation in African immigrant communicties in Europe
- Research capacity building (Master of Public Health, PhD, National Courses on Reproductive Health)
- Prevention and management of sexual and gender based violence.

In haar strijd tegen geweld tegen vluchtelingen, asielzoekers en niet-begeleide minderjarigen, is de onderzoeksgroep ICRH aan de Universiteit Gent in samenwerking met haar partners op zoek naar vrijwilligers, vrouwelijke en mannelijke vluchtelingen, asielzoekers en professionele hulpverleners in de opvang/asielsector die vrijwillig als “Community Researcher” willen meewerken aan het onderzoeksproject: RAAMWERK VOOR PREVENTIE VAN SEKSUEEL EN GENDER-GERELATEERD GEWELD TEGEN EN ONDER JONGE VLUCHTELIN

ICRH Kenya receives amfAR MSM Community Initiative Award
The International Centre for Reproductive Health – Kenya (ICRHK) was recently awarded an MSM Initiative Community Award by amfAR. With this award ICRH – K intends to train 60 MSM peer educators in Mombasa, Ukunda and Lamu Districts, Coast Province, Kenya in basic counseling skills on STI and HIV AIDS prevention, in referral and in peer support. Moreover, the project will provide refresher training to 100 peer educators in the same skills and knowledge.. It is expected that the MSM peer educators’ basic counseling and refresher training will result in reduction of new HIV infections and in effective support system through:

Amnesty International Chair for prof. dr. Nawal El Saadawi
Ghent University will award the Amnesty International Chair 2008-2009 to Prof. dr. Nawal El Saadawi on 31 March 2009. This initiative of Ghent University and Amnesty International Flanders rewards yearly since 2008 a human rights activist. Prof. dr. Nawal El Saadawi was invited because of her work as an Egyptian doctor, psychiatrist and feminist writer.Prof. dr. Nawal El Saadawi will give a public lecture and conduct a debate with prof. dr. Marleen Temmerman (ICRH), moderated by prof. dr. Sami Zemni, about "Creativity, Politics and Women's Rights". The lecture will start at 20:00 in the Vooruit, Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 23, Ghent. Royal visit for ICRH Belgium
Princess Astrid, member of the Belgian Royal family, honored the International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH) in Ghent with a visit on the 12th of November 2008. The occasion for this visit was the prestigious Belgian prize De Beys which was awarded to the ICRH in June 2008.
