Music for Life is a yearly charity event organized by the Flemish radio station Studio Brussel to support Red Cross initiatives. The main event is a six-day marathon radio show, hosted by three Studio Brussel presenters locked up in a “Glass House”. From 19 till 24 December 2008 listeners of the radio station could requests songs for financial contributions. Side events consisted of various private and public initiatives to support the 2008 good cause, which was “Mothers on the run”.
In 2008 the Red Cross and Studio Brussel chose to raise funds to address the refugee problem, i.e. the millions of mothers fleeing war and violence with their children. ICRH-director Prof. Marleen Temmerman, Dr. Marleen Bosmans and Dr. Kristien Roelens made a guest appearance in the Glass House on the 24th of December 2008. Prof. Temmerman was invited by Studio Brussel as an expert on the sexual and reproductive health and rights of female refugees, because of the focus of many ICRH projects on this vulnerable group. During the guest appearance prof. Temmerman donated the amount of 1500 euro. The final amount raised by Music for Life 2008 was 3.503.246 euro.
