The International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH) was established in 1994 in response to the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD, Cairo, 1994). ICRH Kenya was established as an international NGO in the year 2000.
ICRH is a multidisciplinary centre operating within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Ghent University. Besides research activities, ICRH implements projects in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia with a focus on developing training programmes and takes actions to defend sexual and reproductive rights.
ICRH and climate change
ICRH operations involve quite some traveling and therefore contributes considerably to climate change.
In order to limit our carbon footprint, we systematically compensate for the CO2 emissions of our airmiles. We do this through CompenCO2, a specialized NGO established by the Belgian environmental and North-South movements. The compensation fees are invested in climate-friendly development projects in Africa.

Verslag rondetafel Seksuele Gezondheid en Kwetsbare Migranten 25 oktober 2011
Jaarlijks wordt meer dan de helft van het aantal nieuwe infecties met hiv in België vastgesteld bij mensen die niet de Belgische nationaliteit hebben. Eén op drie vrouwen die hier een abortus laat uitvoeren, verblijft nog geen vijf jaar in België. En het vermoeden dat migranten, en dan vooral mensen zonder een geldig verblijfstatuut, vaker het slachtoffer zijn van seksueel geweld, wordt helaas bevestigd door recent onderzoek van het International Center for Reproductive Health (ICRH).
Onthutsende cijfers, die de vraag oproepen: wat kunnen wij daaraan doen? Hoe kunnen wij de vele problemen aanpakken die kwetsbare migranten ervaren op het vlak van seksuele en reproductieve gezondheid? Sensoa, als Vlaams expertisecentrum voor seksuele gezondheid, wil zijn verantwoordelijkheid alvast niet ontlopen, maar het is duidelijk dat wij alleen die taak niet aankunnen. Samenwerking met alle intermediairs die rechtstreeks met kwetsbare migranten werken, is aangewezen. Hun kennis en ervaring is nodig om het tij te helpen keren.
